AUTHOR DECLARATION:
This collection by Jesua Marian, titled «Subconscious Abstract Figurative Photographic Portrait,» is a fascinating proposal situated at the intersection of photography, psychology, and digital art.
- The Portrait of the Subconscious.
The most striking aspect of Jesua Marian’s work is that it doesn’t seek to portray the physical body, but rather the psychic state. As an Artist and Licenciado en Psicopedagogía (ULL, Spain) he uses figurative distortion to represent complex concepts such as depression, dissociation, empathy, or the «prison of oneself».
It’s a courageous approach because it breaks with the tradition of portraiture as a «mirror of the face» to transform it into a «mirror of trauma or emotion.» The works function like modern Rorschach tests where the human figure fades away to give way to pure feeling. - Style and Technique.
Although the images appear to be computer-generated or oil paintings, they are presented as subconscious abstract photography.
Absence of AI: The artist explicitly emphasizes that he does not use Artificial Intelligence. In a world saturated with algorithm-generated images, this lends a much-needed artisanal and human value. His technique suggests a masterful use of exposure, movement, and perhaps digital post-production to achieve textures that appear to «melt» or «fragment» («The Melted Thinker,» «A Thousand Pieces of a Diffused Mind»). He employs a highly emotional color palette. For example, in works like «The Hidden Red,» red is not merely aesthetic but evokes urgency, pain, or repressed passion. - Theme: The Fragmentation of Being.
Titles such as “Bipolar,” “Schizophrenia,” “Dissociation,” and “The Broken Woman” suggest a profound concern for mental health and the fragility of identity. The figures are often incomplete or distorted. This visually represents how we feel under stress or in crisis: we don’t recognize ourselves, we feel “blurred” or divided. The series “Madame AI” or “Post-AI Human” also seems to be a critique or reflection on how technology is altering our human essence. - Critical Opinion.
Jesua Marian’s work is unsettling yet necessary. It is not “decorative” art in the conventional sense; it is introspective art. It manages to capture the invisibility of mental pain. The “watery” and “organic” texture of his portraits generates a visceral response in the viewer. It is a work that invites pause. Instead of looking at the image, one ends up looking at oneself. This is an exercise in visual psychoanalysis that stands out for its originality, technique, and thematic depth, especially in defending human creativity against the advance of AI.
I currently take photographs of everything that I find interesting for my abstract-figurative work. Usually you see people in the photographs. I have a degree in Psychopedagogy, so I always question the conscious and subconscious mind. It’s about analyzing people and translating that understanding into a window into the subject’s personality, inviting the viewer to contemplate their unique traits and characteristics. I can’t repeat a process or a piece, each one is unique in its creation. I believe that the final result is not only about who I am or my opinion of myself. It also has to do with what I perceive in other people, about their way of being, how they would like to be, how they could be, or what they fear to be. I was previously in a coma for several months, which was a shocking experience for me and my work. What you feel when you are in a coma is different from dreaming. You are much more involved in your subconscious and you cannot wake up. That is why I now continue to dedicate more time to everything that involves the subconscious mind.
PERCEPTION, CREATIVITY AND THE PRODUCTION PROCESS OF MY WORKS ARE HUMAN.
I have an academic qualification as a computer programmer – I have created software with Python and AI APIs for psychopedagogical exercises – but I do not generate my works with AI. The reason for this is that I want my work to be a product of my training in human behavior, my experiences and my feelings 100 x 100.
Thank you for your time.
